Nestled in the scenic Lake Minnetonka area, this historic 1899 farmhouse has been thoughtfully enhanced with a beautifully designed carriage house—seamlessly blending classic charm with modern functionality.
A previous renovation had carved a small garage into the home’s original stone basement, but its limited size left much to be desired. Recognizing the potential for something greater, our clients envisioned a carriage house that not only provided practical garage space but also capitalized on breathtaking lake views from the upper level.
We meticulously designed the new structure to honor the proportions and architectural details of the original home, ensuring a harmonious connection between old and new. A striking skyway links the carriage house to the main residence, creating a seamless flow between spaces. Below, an oversized two-car garage offers ample storage for vehicles, bikes, and outdoor gear, while above, the thoughtfully designed living space serves as a private retreat.
By respecting history while embracing modern living, this project redefines what it means to enhance a century-old home for today’s lifestyle.
